Fair Play TK, Solna TK, Påvelunds TBK and Lidingö TK made it to the men’s finals in the Elitserien powered by MATCHi which is played in Lidingö Tennishall Thursday to Saturday.
There was also a dramatic finish in the men’s group stage on Wednesday evening. One of the very last matches of the group stage would decide whether Lidingö TK would make it to the playoffs, which are played precisely at Lidingö. So it happened and it was at the expense of Danderyd Djursholm ETK, who led the group before tonight’s matches.
At the same time, Påvelund’s TBK won the away match against GLTK 4-0.
In Växjö, Lidingö TK led 2-0 after winning the doubles (Johannes Ingildsen and Eric Ahrén Moonga) and the third singles (Fred Simonsson). Adam Heinonen excited the event and the entire group when he won against Sandro Kopp in the first singles. The match between Filip Stidell and Simon Freund would decide where the fight went on for a long time for every ball and it was Simon Freund who won the very last one and sent Lidingö TK to the playoffs.
– Really nice! We knew what we needed to do today from start to finish. Now we reload for playoffs at home where we want to be. We are ready!, says Simon Freund.
– Now we have a chance for revenge against Fair Play TK. Hope it will be packed in the hall, says coach Johan Landsberg.
In Gothenburg, Påvelund’s TBK won with a clear 4-0 against GLTK after Oliver Johansson and Henrik Bladelius’ double win and the single wins through Måns Dahlberg, Chris Rodesch and John Hallquist Lithén. Påvelund stayed on six points. Lidingö TK and Danderyd Djursholm ETK landed on five points where the teams had the same match ratio but where Lidingö won three more sets. The margins were so small in the end.
At the same time, it is clear that for the second time ever, GLTK will leave the top league with the men’s team.
This in turn meant that Växjö TS remained in the elite series.
– I am incredibly happy and proud of the team that we get to stay and also proud of myself that I went undefeated this year,” says Adam Heinonen, who won all his matches in the first singles in the group stage.
In group A, it was already clear that Fair Play TK will take the one playoff spot. When Solna TK had 2-0 at home against SALK in the match that would decide which team would join the Malmö team, the teams chose to skip the remaining singles and the result was 3-1 to Solnagänget, who takes the second semi-final place.
In the matches that were actually played, Rafael Ymer looked like he could give SALK the lead when he took the first set against the college player Didrik Liljekvist. But with a lot of support from the stands, Liljekvist turned the tables and won the second set and also the match tiebreak with 10-5.
By then Matwe Middelkoop and Hannibal Borg had already won the doubles in two sets against Jonathan Mridha and Milos Sekulic and the matter was settled.
In that group, it was also a battle to avoid relegation, and Ullevi TK succeeded in that with a 2-2 draw at home against Örebro TK, who thus left the elite series.
