Eagles shouldn’t trade for Jamal Adams

Commercial gossip is part of the air Philadelphia Eagles the fans breathe. This means that when one of the best security in the league requires an exchange, there must be some churning in the rumor mill. When this security, in this case Jamal adams, specifically mentions the Eagles among other privileged destinations, this chatter intensifies quite quickly.

As it stands, the Eagles rank 6th in terms of odds to clinch the All-Pro Safety Adams, behind teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore crows and Houston Texans. Is this an accurate forecast or are the Eagles more or less likely to reach an agreement with New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas?

Trade against Adams has a couple of factors working against him. First of all, apart from the exchanges of choice of the first round to build and select a recruit (like a quarter of franchise), Howie Roseman never exchanged more than a choice of third round for a player.

Second, the Eagles face an already precarious heading situation for 2021 and 2022. In these two years, they should already spend the second highest number of caps on the defensive side of the ball. Roseman will hack and cut where he can get the Eagles cap remover, but the addition of Adams, who wants to be the highest-paid security in the league, will only exacerbate the problem.

Recently Benjamin solak written on the opportunity to negotiate for the talented Adams and at the end questioned the sweet readers on their point of view on the matter. 62% were in favor of trade for Adams despite Solak’s argument against him …

“The fear that the ceiling limits of 2021 (and 2022 and 2023 and 2024) will be affected by COVID-19 and the limited income of the league is too strong to be ignored. The Eagles, perhaps more than any other team, should think about reducing their future pounds. Spending capital for Adams, knowing that you have to pay Adams, at a time when it will be difficult to pay anyone, is a bad deal. – Benjamin Solak

What if you go back in time and add the financial details to the question? For example, what would happen if the Eagles made this deal before the 2020 NFL Draft and shipped a first selection for Adams? Jalen Reagor is expected to make $ 3.3 million APY on his rookie contract. Adams would probably like something in the roughly $ 15 million APY stadium.

Given the situation of the Eagles ceiling, would you prefer to have Reagor and the extra $ 11.7 million in space per year, or bite the bullet and send the trade anyway?

I conducted this poll on Twitter and saw almost the exact opposite results while maintaining Reagor and the 65% favored money. Again, given the Eagles’ financial situation, I would prefer to gain momentum on Reagor and have the extra space to provide relief or strengthen the roster with at least one additional player. The loss of premium choice and cost-recruit rookie contracts is not something the Eagles should entertain at the moment.
