Eintracht trembles against Paderborn for final victory | hessenschau.de

Despite a three-goal lead, Eintracht Frankfurt almost lost the win against relegated Paderborn. There is no time for farewell gifts for future soccer retirees Marco Russ and Gelson Fernandes.

Eintracht Frankfurt ended this long and strange Bundesliga season on Saturday with a 3-2 (2-0) home win against SC Paderborn. Sebastian Rode (9th minute), André Silva (33.) and Bas Dost (52.) met for the hosts, Paderborn’s Mohamed Dräger (55.) and Sven Michel (75.) caused excitement again in the final phase. Since SC Freiburg also celebrated a victory on the last matchday (4-0 against Schalke), the Hessians crossed the finish line in ninth.

Rode and Silva meet before the break

Trainer Adi Hütter had initially given up surprises and farewell gifts and had called up the strongest team. Signal: Take the game seriously, attack eighth place. This requirement was then implemented directly on the course. Eintracht presented itself top motivated and determined from the start. The first chance missed after four minutes, Rode used the second shortly afterwards for the lead.

Eintracht was clearly in-house and often tied guests from East Westphalia to their own penalty area with early pressing. Without the really big pressure, small mistakes crept in from time to time on the defensive, but after a short period of pressure from the Paderborn team, the Hessians picked up the pace again and were promptly rewarded. Silva gilded a nice combination of Danny da Costa and Daichi Kamada for the 2-0 half-time lead.

Paderborn is coming back

The same picture after the change of sides: Eintracht dominated the game and always showed good approaches on the offensive. Especially Filip Kostic and da Costa kept cranking outside, but also Silva, Dost and Kamada presented themselves in a good mood shortly before the start of the holiday. The 3-0 win by Dost was consequently the two Paderborn follow-up goals out of nowhere. Dräger brought the guests back into the game with his first Bundesliga goal, Michel took advantage of an invitation to counterattack ice cold.

Although in the meantime the game was rippling and tipping more and more towards the summer kick, coach Hütter did not make any big gestures in the final phase. Marco Russ and Gelson Fernandes, who both ended their careers, warmed up to the end, but neither were substituted.

And that’s how the two prospective football renter looked from the bank, how Paderborn would have almost equalized in injury time. The supposed goal of Jans was called back because of an offside position.
