Mark Turmell, the inventor of NBA Jam, says the long-standing conspiracy theory that the game against the Chicago Bulls has been rigged is true. According to Turmell, the game is programmed in such a way that the bulls automatically miss every shot attempt against the Detriot pistons at the last second.

“Since I’m originally from Michigan, I’m a big fan of Detroit Pistons,” Turmell told Ars Technica. I could go back to the Bulls once they have overcome the hump to hurt their skills against the pistons in NBA Jam.

“So I entered a special code if the bulls firing against the pistons at the last second missed those shots,” he said. “So if you ever play the game, make sure you pick the pistons over the bull.”

NBA Jam was first released in 1993 as a basketball arcade game and developed by Midway. It offers gameplay presented as a 2v2 basketball game with the NBA team’s most popular players (with the exception of Michael Jordan, who refused to license his likeness to the game). NBA Jam was extremely successful and produced numerous follow-up games.
