Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach: I no longer want to train David De Gea

Emilio Alvarez dismissed news saying he was released from his position at Old Trafford, stressing it was his personal decision.

Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez revealed that he was leaving the club because of a dispute with David de Gea regarding the player’s future, shortly after his educated goalkeeper signed a new contract at Old Trafford.

Alvarez dismissed the news that he was released from his post at Carrington, citing his departure due to personal reasons and differences in professional views with his compatriot.

De Gea signed a new contract to stay with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s landing team in September last year, agreeing on a four-year duration that will keep him in Manchester until June 2023.

Alvarez was brought to United under the direction of manager Jose Mourinho, having previously coached De Gea at Atletico Madrid – but he is now talking about his departure from United, stressing that De Gea’s decision to extend the contract behind him was the basis of his departure.

“It is not true that Manchester United released me from my post,” Alvarez told AS. “In fact, as soon as De Gea extended the contract, United made an offer [kontrak baru] for me. It was me who asked to meet with the club so I could tell them that I wanted to leave.

“It was at this meeting that they asked me to extend my contract. I told them that I would go but not because I wanted to leave United. I just want to stop training De Gea.

“Apart from me being his coach at Atletico Madrid, where I strongly support him, I am the one who convinced him to move to United. I am a trusted person in Manchester.

“I came to United thanks to the work of Jorge Mendes and because Mourinho wants me to foster David and to keep him at the club. At this time, he really wants to leave United.

“After nearly three years of hard work and various meetings with United to renew his contract and make him the best-paid player in the world, I just learned that he signed the contract behind me. To be honest, I feel it’s a little less loyal.

“During the negotiations, he also fought with the people who carried out the negotiations so that he gets paid like now. At the last minute, someone else interfered. I made it clear that I did not like it because it was less loyal.

“I asked David about why he didn’t say anything to me and he said that he was asked not to say anything to anyone. That has an impact on me. The way I understand my profession is that you cannot help someone develop if you don’t have total trust in them and that is why I decided to leave United. “
