The conclusion of the first part of the qualification brought a surprise. George Russell came in third with his Williams. Gradually, he failed, but he still managed to advance to the second part of the qualification and together with him, his teammate Nicholas Latifi also looked there for the first time. On the contrary, the final station was the first part of the qualification for the drivers of Haas, Alfa Romeo and Kvjata.

Kvjat’s teammate Gasly complained about his drive unit throughout the qualification. Paradoxically, he got into the third part of the qualification, but he did not finish in it.

The drivers of Renault, Mercedes and Racing Point drove to the second part on medium tires. The drivers of Mercedes and Racing Point managed to get to the third part on them, so they will also start the race on them. Renault did not make it to Q3. Alexander Albon from Red Bull also remained in the second part.

In the third part, Hamilton took the lead in the new circuit record. Bottas lost three tenths to him after the first attempt. In third place was Stroll. Sergio Pérez got off the track and his time was erased.

In the second attempts, the Ferrari drivers drove first and managed to get the third row. Hamilton accelerated in a second attempt. His teammate too, but he still missed a tenth of a second for Hamilton.

The predicted rain eventually came in the form of just a few drops.
