RB Leipzig stunts again and eliminates Atlético in minute 89

RB Leipzig is in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Atlético Madrid hoped to reach extra time, but got the decisive goal in the last minute of the game: 2-1.

Leipzig played against Atlético for the first time without Timo Werner, who has moved to Chelsea. He was replaced at the point of the attack by Yussuf Poulsen. At Atlético, top talent João Félix started on the bench.

Leipzig – Atlético is a top poster on paper, but there was little to enjoy in the first half in Portugal, where the remainder of the Champions League tournament is being completed. Both teams had some chances, but the game was not really loose. Leipzig prevailed, although Atlético simply held his own. Partly thanks to the star Dayot Upamecano, the Spaniards hardly managed to create anything.

Shortly after the tea break, Leipzig took a deserved 1-0 lead. A perfect pass from the right from Marcel Sabitzer was cleverly headed in by Dani Olmo, who passed Jan Oblak in the far corner. The goal was the signal for Diego Simeone to make some changes. He brought some fresh legs with João Félix. A golden move, as it turned out afterwards, because the match turned after the introduction of the Portuguese. Fifteen minutes after the substitution he went over the leg of Lukas Klostermann, who clumsily gave away a penalty kick. João Félix took advantage of the opportunity himself.

After the 1-1 Atlético reverted to old patterns. The team did not need to anymore and hoped to reach extra time with ultra-defensive play, but still got the lid on the nose in the final phase when Tyler Adams happily scored the winning one a minute before the end. Former PSV player Angeliño played an important role in this. Leipzig takes on Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final.
