Leeds United lost 3-4 to Liverpool in the Premier League weekend. Even so, Marcelo Bielsa was quite satisfied to see his team managed to trouble the Reds.
At Anfield, Saturday (12/09/2020), Liverpool actually appeared to be pressing. For 90 minutes, they created 22 shots, compared to 6 for Leeds. The defending champion also took the lead through Mohamed Salah’s penalty in the 4th minute.
However, Leeds, the promoted team with the status of champions in the Championship division, never gave up. They managed to take advantage of holes in the Liverpool defense, and finally equalized in the 12th minute through Jack Harrison’s kick.
Virgil Van Dijk’s header brought the Reds ahead again in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, the Dutch defender’s blunder made Patrick Bamford equalize ten minutes later.
Salah through his volley managed to make the score 3-2 in the 33rd minute. But in the 66th minute, Leeds for the third time managed to make the score equally strong through Mateusz Klich, again taking advantage of the escort of the Liverpool players.
Liverpool finally came out as winners. Salah’s penalty at the end of the second half shattered Leeds’s dreams of achieving a sweet result in their first appearance in the top tier of English football after 16 years.

“We had difficulty neutralizing Liverpool’s attack. Especially in the second half, we struggled to get the ball from the defense to attack,” Bielsa told Sky Sports after the match.
Even so, Bielsa still praised the appearance of his foster children. At least, there were 13 shots from Juergen Klopp’s squad which were successfully blocked by Kalvin Phillips et al. Leeds also had the ball as much as 51.6 percent, although they had few chances.
“But we can also make it difficult for Liverpool to play as usual and we are working hard for that. In fact we can match them for most of the match,” continued the Argentine tactician.
