Red Bull Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano confirmed that he has held talks with interested clubs to leave the Bundesliga this summer.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked to the move to Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to team up with 21-year-old Harry Maguire.

The defender is one of the most exciting prospects in world football and his performances in Leipzig’s run to the Champions League semi-finals have attracted the attention of the European elite.

Upamecano extended his contract with Leipzig in July, but the deal was relatively short, until 2023.

It is believed that there is a release clause in the deal allowing Upamecano to leave for just over £ 40m and the defender confirmed that he had held talks with several anonymous clubs to leave Leipzig.

‘I stretched out in Leipzig because I feel good with my teammates and my coach. I’m good in Leipzig, ‘said Upamecano.

‘It is true that I am in great demand. I talk to the clubs, but I’m in no hurry and we’ll see what happens in the future. ‘

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is passionate about Upamecano, some disagreement remains on United’s scoreboard over a move for the defender this summer.

At 21, there are doubts that Upamecano is ready to join the first team and become a starter alongside Maguire.

Secondly, some board members believe Upamecano would improve more with another season in Germany, when the club could then activate its release clause and sign him for a cheaper share.
