Rams overtake everyone, making a slew of cuts in the roster to grow to * 52 * players, by the way of Adam Schefter on Twitter. Presumably they plan to make another move shortly and not start the year with one player less than everyone else.

Los Angeles had already made a bunch of cuts, so it’s a small group taking the ax now:

  • DT Marquise Copeland
  • DB Donte Deayon
  • DT Michael Hoecht
  • LB Clay Johnston
  • LB Natrez Patrick
  • QB Bryce Perkins
  • LB Christian Rozeboom
  • BY Jonah Williams
  • LB Justin Lawler (waived / injured)
  • LB Travin Howard (added to injured reserve)
  • DT A’Shawn Robinson (added to NFI list)

Deayon and Johnston both featured prominently in HBO’s Hard Knocks during camp, so there are sure to be fans disappointed with these cuts. Both are good bets to be back on the practice squad as Johnston was a draft pick and Deayon was sometimes on the active roster last year.

Perkins had a lot of electrifying moments as Virginia’s quarterback, but the UDFA apparently wasn’t ready to do so as an NFL passer. Howard and Robinson don’t get cut, but instead are on the non-football and IR injury list respectively. Howard, who was supposed to play a big role in defense, will be out for the season while Robinson will have to miss at least the first six games.
