Macon tournament: Eugenie Bouchard starts off on the right foot

Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard won her first qualifying match at the ITF tournament in Macon, Georgia, at the expense of American Alexa Glatch on Monday.

Bouchard, the first seed in qualifying, won easily in two identical 6-2 sets. The duel lasted 1 h 12 min.

The home favorite experienced several difficulties on her serve and the 26-year-old was able to capitalize on five of the seven break points offered by Glatch. Bouchard was much more convincing with the balls in hand, going in particular with five aces.

Glatch only offered the service of the Quebecer once, in the penultimate game of the final round, before Bouchard responded in quick succession with a break of his own.

It was the first meeting in their career between the two athletes. Glatch, a 31-year-old veteran, claims 291st in the WTA rankings.

To reach the main draw in Macon, the 140th racquet in the world will have to defeat the winner of the duel between the American Katie Volynets and the Japanese Kyoka Okamura.
