The Carolina Panthers are expected to be deprived of the services of star running back Christian McCaffrey for four to six weeks due to a sprained ankle, reports NFL Network.

McCaffrey was injured in the fourth quarter of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. He could not take part in the last offensive sequences of his own.

The 24-year-old amassed 59 yards and scored two touchdowns in 18 carries before leaving the game.

McCaffrey had his career best of 2019 with 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns in 16 games. He also tallied 1,005 yards in the air and caught four touchdown passes.

He signed a contract extension of $ 64 million last April.

The Panthers are 0-2 since the start of the campaign.
