Liverpool has stumbled over the threshold of the eighth finals against Atalanta. The English national champion played unrecognizable and sees Ajax and Atalanta sneaking closer again in group D.

Liverpool had started the Champions League campaign like a whirlwind: 9 out of 9 with 8 goals and 0 goals against. With a ticket for the next round within reach, coach Jürgen Klopp allowed himself to make a thorough change: Divock Origi, among others, got another chance.

Atalanta, which had received a flat score from Liverpool in Bergamo, could better defend itself against the more inexperienced version of the English champion.

After an hour, the Italians were able to convert their superiority into goals. Ilicic and Gosens gave Atalanta a well deserved victory. Liverpool tried to turn the tide with four changes, but the defeat was inevitable.

Ajax and Atalanta sneak up to 2 points from Liverpool. Next week, Liverpool will get another chance against Ajax to secure its ticket for the eighth finals.
