Rivière-du-Loup – The elementary badminton club of Collège Notre-Dame de Rivière-du-Loup participated in its first two tournaments of the season at the end of November and the performances lived up to expectations .
On November 21, during the succession tournament organized by the Portageurs of Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup, all club members took part in competitions in the “Primary and Secondary 1” category. Several players then reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals, confirming their potential.
On November 29, club representatives participated in a tournament organized by the Western section of the Eastern Quebec Student Sport Network in Rimouski. This competition also brought together students from Pohénégamook and Rimouski. On this occasion, Émile Côté won the gold medal in singles. The Émile Côté – François Lévesque tandem then won in doubles against another duo from the club, formed by Louis-Philippe Gilbert and Olivier Hamel.
Note that during this tournament, the girls were entered in the same categories as the boys and that they also obtained excellent results by participating in several semi-finals in singles and doubles.
The Collège Notre-Dame elementary badminton club will now take a break for the holiday season. Activities will resume on Sunday January 11 at 10 a.m. at the College gymnasium. The club is aimed at young people aged 7 to 12, boys and girls, from primary schools in the Rivière-du-Loup region. Under the supervision of qualified and experienced coaches, students in grades 2 to 6 evolve in an environment that promotes their learning of basic badminton techniques and strategies. They perform routines adapted to their level, practice technical elements in a game situation and participate in regional and provincial tournaments during the season.
