The Frenchman Pinturo rewrites the history of downhill skiing

Pinturo celebrated 30 victories during his career and on Friday became the first downhill skier to succeed in six different disciplines – slalom, giant slalom, super giant, combination, parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom. Mikaela Šifrina, an American, was able to win six disciplines in the women’s competition.

Today he beat Norwegian Henrik Christofferson by 0.11 seconds in the final. In the first race the Frenchman was 0.16 seconds faster, but in the second race the competitor regained five hundredths of a second.

In the fight for the third place, the German Alexander Schmitt defeated the Austrian Adrian Petla. Fifth place was won by Semiel Bissig, a Swiss born in 1998, who started in his fourth World Cup.

Last season’s World Cup winner Alexander Omod Kilde withdrew in the first round after making a mistake in the second race. Norwegian Lucas Broten, who won the first giant slalom race of the season, did not qualify for the elimination races, nor did the two-time Olympic champion Matthias Maier.

The 20-year-old Estonian Tormiss Laine made his debut in the World Cup.

In the overall World Cup standings, leader Pinturo has 150 points, while Christopher is second with 125 points.

The men’s next World Cup is scheduled for December 5 in Santa Caterina, Italy, where a giant slalom event will take place.
