The BG Göttingen conceded their fourth defeat in a row in the basketball league – and this at home with 58:93 (37:48) against the previously victorious Central German BC.

Göttingen – More difficult than this defeat, however, is the injury-related loss of their playmaker Luke Nelson in the 23rd minute, who had been the most successful thrower with 13 points. On Sunday there was the preliminary, devastating diagnosis: muscle tear, longer break for Nelson! Now the BG still has a problem.

In general, the violets had to do without Mathis Mönninghoff, who suffered a double torn ligament in training and will be out for weeks, and the still ailing Jorge Gutiérrez – certainly a weakness in terms of personnel. Marvin Omuvwie was in the starting line-up for the first time, while Harper Kamp and training player Andrew Onwuegbuzie joined the squad.

The guests got off to a better start, going 7: 5 and after a 12: 0 run to 19: 7. Above all, Shavon Coleman was unstoppable in this phase, who had scored eight points after the first quarter and 17 points up to the break. “I am very disappointed. We needed another 25 minutes to be in the game, ”said BG trainer Roel Moors, remembering the defeat in Crailsheim, where the Göttingen team only countered too late in the second half.

In the course of this game it became apparent that Will Rayman, who was signed up two weeks ago, is not yet a factor. He still needs time to be integrated, to get used to systems.

With the exception of 18 points at 61:43 (26th minute), the Weißenfels team pulled away, the game seemed to be to the disadvantage of the hosts at this point. However, they did not give up yet and shortened to 63:70 with a score of 54:70 with a 9-0 run. In this phase it was above all Göttingen’s Galen Robinson, who got a total of ten points, and Aubrey Dawkins, who once again caused tension with successful throws. Dawkins was the top scorer of the game with 24 points. But whenever the BG had hoped to be able to turn this game, Michal Michalak and the Croatian international Rojo Rogic kept throwing successful three-point throws. So when Nelson Weidemann was able to shorten to 81:84 with a three, Michalak countered with a three to make 87:81 for the guests.

“We didn’t respect too many simple things. There is only one way at the moment, we have to work hard, ”complained Moors, who, however, did not look for excuses that his team would have been weakened by the bloodletting. (By Walter Gleitze /gsd)
