Bleekemolen: “Mick Schumacher is absolutely not Max Verstappen”

Mick Schumacher will make his Formula 1 debut in 2021 on behalf of Haas F1. Former Formula 1 driver Michael Bleekemolen thinks it is fantastic that such a famous name returns to the highest motorsport stage, but is not sure what to expect from him. He is not very positive in advance.

“It may sound strange, but I have my doubts about it,” he explains in conversation with RacingNews365. “He is absolutely not Max Verstappen.” Bleekemolen concludes that after years of following the career of the young German. “Maybe I’m wrong, but I think he could be (at best) a reasonable Bottas.”

In that respect, Bleekemolen does not consider it wrong that Schumacher is making his debut in the shelter of Haas F1: “Otherwise there would also be too much pressure on his shoulders. It is more pleasant for him that he has one or two years to get used to somewhere , where we are going to see whether or not he will fall through. “

“Of course he has to stand out, even in a slower car”, continues Bleekemolen, who does not think such a thing is impossible. “George Russell shows that that is possible. But in the first instance Schumacher will of course have to beat his teammate Nikita Mazepin. That is always important. However, I can hardly estimate how those two drivers relate to each other.”

Romain Grosjean survived a horror crash at the Bahrain GP. Max Verstappen was not in the least impressed by Alexander Albon and is putting pressure on Red Bull. This and more in the RacingNews365 F1 podcast with Tom Coronel, Ruud Dimmers and host Thomas van Groningen, which can be heard below.
