The duel between Chiefs y Saints it was a true delight. Patrick Mahomes vs Drew Brees, the new wave of quarterbacks against the old guard, two contenders for Super Bowl LV. The result favored Kansas City, which once again proved to be an almost unstoppable offensive machine.
Although the Chiefs had to fight more for the victory. The start of the game was bogged down by the defenses and it was until L’Jarius Sneed intercepted Brees that KC was able to do some damage. Product of the exchange of possession in land of HOW, Kansas City took the lead with Mahomes touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill (five yards).
The outlook did not look very encouraging for Saints as at the beginning of the second quarter Chiefs increased the lead with series of 11 plays, 80 yards and one-yard flydown (Travis Kelce).
However, before the break Saints showed signs of life with a meteoric offensive 2:40 minutes that topped Taysom Hill by land. And when it seemed that the scoreboard was no longer moving, on a New Orleans punt Demarcus Robinson lost the ball in an inattention and what seemed like seven points for Sean Payton’s pupils turned into a safety before Craig Robertson’s inability to keep the ball in the end zone.
Second half
The start of the supplementary part put the Saints in front for the first and only time in the game. In less than two minutes, Brees covered 75 yards and Latavius Murray got the cartwheel with a 24-yard reception ─with failed two-point conversion.
Andy Reid responded with a pair of touchdown attacks to the New Orleans jolt. First it was a series of nine plays that Mecole Hardman decked out with a tight reception. Later, already in the fourth period, Mahomes displayed his nickname, “Showtime”, so that Le’Veon Bell will score a 13-yard run off a side pass from his quarterback.
With 11 minutes left, and the product of a Mahomes fumble recovered by Kwon Alexander, the Saints tightened the game with a score by Alvin Kamara after a 14-yard pass. Chiefs defended with a field goal Harrison Butker’s 22-yard goal and NOLA put the game three units away with touchdown reception by Lil’Jordan Humphrey.
However, when the Saints defense tried to slow down Mahomes to have the ball once again, the fourth-year QB consumed the clock and scored the Saints’ 13th win of the year.
By week 16, New Orleans hosts the Vikings and closes its schedule in Carolina. For its part, Chiefs recibe a Falcons y Chargers.
