BWF has just announced the dates TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup will come to Denmark in 2021. It will take place on 9-17. October, that the world championships for men’s and women’s national teams for the first time ever come together in Europe, when Ceres Arena, Aarhus, lays courses for world-class badminton.
Unfortunately, 2020 was not the year when it was otherwise planned that the world championships for men’s and women’s national teams, the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup, would be held in Europe for the first time. But now there is good news. For BWF has just announced that the championships will come to Ceres Arena in Aarhus on 9-17. October 2021.
– We are really happy that in collaboration with BWF, our sponsors and partners we have succeeded in finding some new dates for the Thomas & Uber Cup in 2021. Hopefully we will be here on the other side of Covid-19, so more Danish and foreign fans get the experience of seeing the world’s best badminton players live in one of the world’s best event countries, where we will put ourselves in the saddle to create the badminton party we have all missed and waited for, says Badminton Denmark’s director, Bo Jensen .

There will be a bang on the badminton sport in Denmark in October. In addition to the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup in weeks 40 and 41, VICTOR DENMARK OPEN will be played in the usual way in Odense in weeks 42, 19-24. October. So the Danish fans will hopefully have ample opportunity to see their national as well as international idols.
In Aarhus, they are looking forward to welcoming the world championships to October.
– There is hope that we can soon start vaccinating against Covid-19, and that we can start believing in a brighter future, where we can once again gather for big events and good experiences. I look forward to hopefully welcoming the whole world’s badminton elite to Aarhus by October. Together with the many badminton fans and volunteers in Aarhus, we have been looking forward to setting a date for this big event, says Councilor for Culture and Borgservice Rabih Azad-Ahmad
Sport Event Denmark is also looking forward to having another skyscraper in the Danish event program for 2021.
– It is gratifying that there is now a date for the Thomas & Uber Cup next year. The WC for teams will thus be one of the lighthouses on the 2021 event calendar together with, among other things, the EC in football and the WC in canoe and kayak sprint, says Lars Lundov, director of Sport Event Denmark.

Denmark is the first country in Europe to have won the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup.
TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup 2020 was originally supposed to have been played in Denmark in May 2020, but due to Covid-19, the championships were first moved to August, later then October, before they were finally pushed to 2021.
Denmark has hosted the World Cup for Individuals in 2014, 1999, 1991 and 1983 as well as the Sudirman Cup, World Cup for mixed teams, in 1991 and 1999.
The Danish men’s national team won as the first European nation ever Thomas Cup in 2016. The men’s national team won bronze at the latest World Cup for men’s national teams in Thailand, 2018.
The Danish Uber Cup national team has never won the World Cup, but has become number two in 1957, 1960 and 2000.
