Pochettino-Messi, the possible Parisian connection

Mauricio Pochettino announced on the bench of PSG, the Argentinian press sees it as a Parisian boon for the recruitment of Lionel Messi.

There is little more doubt that Mauricio Pochettino will take over from Thomas Tuchel on the Parisian bench within a few days. For no one. In Argentina, the news is greeted with a certain enthusiasm, and some see it as the opportunity of an additional bridge between the club of the capital and Lionel Messi, which the rumor willingly sends to Paris when the Barcelona contract of the interested party expires next June.

The Blaugrana presidential candidates have all promised that La Pulga will remain loyal to the Catalan institution. In view of the sporting and financial difficulties, however, and while the maestro tried to force his departure during the previous offseason without finding a buyer, considering a transfer of Messi this summer is anything but heresy. But very few clubs, other than PSG, can afford to recruit the six-fold Golden Ball.

The Newell’s Old Boys in common

The Argentinian newspaper Olé recalls this state of affairs and notes that Mauricio Pochettino and Lionel Messi – beyond their Barcelona connections (the former Tottenham coach defended the colors of Espanyol for nine seasons, from 1994 to 2001 then from 2004 to 2006) – have in common their attachment to Newell’s Old Boys, the club in Rosario where they both studied. Last March, Pochettino confided his desire to work one day with Messi, with a view to returning home: “ I hope to return to the club one day (in Rosario, editor’s note). I can still wait, preferably in 10 years. With Messi … »The connection may be closer than expected.

Whatever happens, the two men have an appointment on February 16, for the knockout stages of the Champions League between the Barça and PSG at Camp Nou. The return is scheduled for March 10 at the Parc des Princes.
