Premier League – Chelsea dominate West Ham (3-0) and take 5th place

Chelsea recovers. Almost a week after falling at Wolverhampton, the Blues clearly beat West Ham on Monday night (3-0), on the 14th day of the Premier League. A goal from Thiago Silva and a double from Tammy Abraham allowed Frank Lampard’s men to revive, in a meeting that they are far from having fully mastered. The London club therefore distances itself from its neighbor and evening opponent, to move up to fifth place, one point off the podium.

It wasn’t all perfect, but Chelsea got the job done. Sometimes seriously jostled, the Blues had the merit of having two big highlights on their lawn at Stamford Bridge. It was at the heart of a perfect start that Thiago Silva opened the scoring with a header from a corner (1-0, 10th), recalling the immense quality of the London club in this area. Then it was in the last quarter of an hour, also mastered, that Tammy Abraham saw double, first by deflecting a shot from Timo Werner (2-0, 78th), then by finishing in the open goal after a shot from header from Christian Pulisic (3-0, 80th).

Thiago Silva intractable

In the meantime, Lampard’s men did not control everything, far from it. The Hammers have, for a time, been above in the commitment, even sometimes technically. But, with the exception of a goal denied for offside to Declan Rice (7th), it never translated into a big opportunity. The formation of David Moyes did not frame the slightest strike, leaving Edouard Mendy rather quiet. The fault, also, with a hinge very in place, and in particular with a Thiago Silva in great form and intractable behind Sébastien Haller.

This success in any case allows the Blues to quickly recover from their successive failures on the lawns of Everton (1-0) and Wolves (2-1). Indispensable before entering the usual holiday marathon, which this year will see them face Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester City in nine days. Sacred program for the teammates of Olivier Giroud, remained on the bench this Monday.
