Argentine Tomás Etcheverry lost in his debut at the Delray Beach ATP 250

In an atypical way, the 2021 world tennis circuit started. This time Australia and Qatar were not the protagonists of the first week of the year as usual, but the contest moved to the United States and Turkey, with the ATP 250s from Delray Beach and Antalya respectively.

It was in the North American country where the only Argentine representative of the singles charts was. And it is necessary to speak in the past tense because Tomás Etcheverry from La Plata fell in his presentation in the tournament that is played on outdoor cement and distributes 250 points for the ranking.

At just 21 years old, Etcheverry played his first ATP match on the professional circuit but was unable to face the local Christian Harrison, who won 6-4, 6-4. The American took advantage of four of the 13 break opportunities he had on the service of his rival and scored ten aces winners against four of the Argentine.

Now Harrison will face Chilean Christian Garín, the first seed of the tournament, in the round of 16. For Etcheverry it was his debut and farewell, but with the illusion of continuing to grow in the professional ranking that today shows him as 256th in the world, just four places behind his best classification.
