Chile National Team: Juan Manuel Lillo, candidate to replace Reinado Rueda | National teams

The discussions in Chile for the future of the national team are daily bread: if it was a mistake to let Reinaldo Rueda go, if at least money came in from Colombia for him, who could replace him.

The parade of candidates has not stopped since the official announcement of the departure of the Colombian, bound for his country’s team. Some go through longing, others more through economic reality.

In the first list, Rafa Benítez, Julien Lopetegui and Unai Emery have been mentioned, but when looking at the budgets the interest has deflated.

On the most realistic level, it is said that the Chilean Federation (ANFP) has initiated contacts with an old acquaintance in Colombia: the Spanish Juan Manuel Lillo.

The veteran coach is currently part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, but the position of national coach could end that process.

As reported by the newspaper AS, Lillo is the favorite of President Pablo Milad and sports director Francis Cagigao and contacts have already been initiated to try to take him as a replacement for Rueda. His experience as Jorge Sampaoli’s assistant between 2015 and 2016 would be his cover letter.

It is worth remembering that Lillo went through Millonarios and Atlético Nacional in Colombia without very favorable results, despite always having the support of their managers.
