Colombian duel in Argentine final: Banfield, Boca rival

Two more Colombians to the final of the Diego Maradona Cup. Banfield, with an outstanding performance by Iván Arboleda and an assist from Mauricio Cuero, beat San Lorenzo 4-1 and finished as leader of Group B of the championship phase with 12 points out of 15 possible, for which they will fight for the title against Boca Juniors.

Drill went up on the scoreboard before the close of the first half, thanks to a great play by the Colombian winger, who eluded a rival, accelerated to enter the area and sent the precise cross for Fabián Bordagaray’s header.

Cristian Fontana extended the advantage for the local in Florencio Sola at minute 60, but Víctor Salazar discounted for the Cyclone. There they arrived a couple of interventions by the Colombian goalkeeper to avoid equality, while Cuero had a couple of chances for the third, but in the first Fernando Monetti saved and in the second the winger slipped before defining. Martín Payero was in charge of making it 3-1 with a goal from a free kick, while in overtime Juan Álvarez sealed it 4-1.

Final with Colombian duel

The San Juan Bicentennial Stadium will host the final of this contest, in which on one side will be Banfield, with Arboleda and Cuero, while the other will be Boca Juniors, with Frank Fabra, Jorman Campuzano, Edwin Cardona and Sebastián Villa, who was reached with a tie at La Paternal to finish as Group A leader thanks to River Plate’s loss to Independiente. The date is next Sunday, January 17 and the schedule is pending to be confirmed.
