Dayana Yastremska’s request to have her suspension lifted was denied

The request to lift the temporary suspension of Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska was rejected by the president of the independent court. In early January it was announced that world number 29, Yastremska, had been banned from all tennis activities after a positive doping test.

A urine sample given by Yastremska on November 24th contained a metabolite of mesterolone, a synthetic testosterone. Despite the suspension, Yastremska flew to Australia in the hope that her application would be successful and that she could play at the Australian Open.

However, Yastremska can still appeal the decision to CAS. “A request by Dayana Yastremska to lift the temporary suspension imposed on her on January 7, 2021 under Article 8.3.1 (c) of the 2020 Tennis Anti-Doping Program was rejected by the chairman of the independent tribunal convened to review her case listen, “read the statement.

Yastremska denies the use of prohibited substances

“I have never used performance-enhancing drugs or prohibited substances,” wrote the Ukrainian on Twitter. “I am amazed and in shock, especially considering the fact that two weeks before this test I tested negative at the WTA event in Linz.”

“Very low levels of mesterolone metabolites were found in my urine,” added Yastremska. “Given this low concentration and my negative test two weeks ago, I received scientific advice that the result was consistent with some form of contamination event.

“Due to the confidentiality of the procedure, you will understand that I cannot provide any further information at this time. However, I am currently working with my team and you can be assured that I am determined to do whatever I can to clear my name. ”
