Not Feeling Violated by Pogba, Douglas Luiz: How come there is a penalty?

Manchester

Douglas Luiz opened his voice regarding his incident with Paul Pogba which resulted in a penalty for Manchester United. He felt there was no violation there.

MU won a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in Week 15 of the Premier League, Saturday (2/1/2021) early morning Western Indonesian Time. The Red Devils took the lead through Anthony Martial (40th minute).

Villa had equalized from Bertrand Traore’s strike (58 ‘). Bruno Fernandes penalty three minutes later from Traore’s goal then decides the three points for United.

These results led MU to equal Liverpool’s points at the top of the standings with 33 points. The Red Devils must be willing to be in second place on goal difference.

However, MU’s victory over Villa invited a lot of debate. The reason is, MU is considered not worthy of a penalty which Fernandes converted into a goal.

Referee Michael Oliver gave the penalty after Paul Pogba fell due to a duel with Douglas Luiz. In the replay, there was actually no meaningful contact made by Douglas. Pogba actually looks like he fell due to tripping on his own leg.

Douglas through his tweet on Twitter asserted that he did not feel violated Pogba. He was very upset that this decision cost his team so much.

“I saw reruns, I don’t believe it was a penalty. I always favor fairer football with fewer mistakes. I stop and then see movements like this,” Douglas wrote.

“If we have VAR to help, let’s start using it properly. This error can determine the future of many clubs,” explained the Brazilian.
