Plan: VfB / SC Peine starts on March 20th

If the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga continues, only one simple round should be played. The games that have already been played are included. That was decided by the German Badminton League Association (DBLV).

The VfB / Ski Club Peine would then have four more games to play in the 2nd Bundesliga North. The bad news: The opponents Mühlheim, Hohenlimburg and Refrath II are in the upper half of the table, Solingen is sixth in the season of eleven. The good news: The current third in the table VfB / SC Peine has already scored so many points against the teams from the lower half of the table that the season’s goal is not endangered. The team wanted to collect so many points early on that they can play a quiet series without the risk of relegation.

The series is – if allowed – to continue on February 28th. Two double game days on 20./21. March and 10./11. April should follow. That would accommodate the tormentors, since the February date is a single date. “We have already played six games and would not need to get in until March,” says VfB / SC coach Heiner Brandes. That would relax the preparation situation. Because the halls are still closed, and Brandes believes that three or four weeks of training are necessary before the point games can start again.

According to the DBLV, one team should be relegated from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season. For the first division, two teams will be determined in the promotion round in mid-May. The two second division champions and the ninth of the first division take part in this round. The two second teams of TSV Trittau and TV Refrath are currently ahead of VfB / SC Peine. If the constellation remains like this, the Peiner could take part in the promotion round, since Trittau II and Refrath II are not allowed to climb.

Brandes doesn’t think that’s realistic. “We have three strong teams behind us. If we land in the front midfield, it would be good. If it is enough for the promotion round, we would of course not refuse. “

The DBLV has not yet worked out a “plan B” for the event that the game cannot be played at the end of March either. “Because then it would probably make no sense to continue the season until the end of June,” says a press release. “The only alternative to identifying masters and relegators in 2021 would then be intensive advice on changing the season to the calendar year.”

Due to the corona pandemic, the German O19 Championships will also be postponed – from the original date (February 4 to 7) to August 26 to 29, 2021 (Thursday to Sunday). The venue remains the Seidensticker-Halle in Bielefeld.
