[아시아경제 나한아 기자] Chung Kyung-eun (31, Gimcheon City Hall), a former badminton national team member, posted a post in the Blue House National Petition, saying that there was an unrequited part in the selection process for the national team in 2021.

On the 29th, a post titled “Please clarify the suspicion of the 2021 national badminton player selection screening” was posted on the Blue House National Petition bulletin board. By the morning of the 31st, about 2,500 people agreed.

Kyung-eun Jung, asking for consent to the petition on his Instagram, said, “I think that the players who will compete in the national team in the future should be able to play the selection more fairly and transparently.”

Kyung-eun Jung is a world-renowned athlete who won a bronze medal in women’s doubles at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. .

Previously, Jung Kyung-eun participated in the national team selection held in Muju, Jeollabuk-do on the 18th and 23rd, but was eliminated.

The Korean Badminton Association has given the Taegeuk mark to 12 doubles female players this year. Of these, seven of them were automatically retained the Taegeuk mark or were exempted from the selection due to their high world ranking or high probability of participating in the Olympics.

Women’s Doubles World Ranking 4th place Lee So-hee-Shin Seung-chan, 6th place Kim So-young-Gong Hee-yong, 9th place Jang Ye-na-Kim Hye-rin, and mixed doubles world ranking 6th place Chae Yoo-jeong (Incheon International Airport) received the selection exemption.

Jang Ye-na and Kim Hye-rin received exemption rights because their ranking is likely to go up to 8th place based on the declaration of retirement by the Japanese team (Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi), the 7th in the world.

Kyung-eun Jung and Hana Paik had to be in the top 5 in the selection to maintain their national qualifications. Paik Hana passed in third place and kept the Taegeuk mark, but Jung Kyung-eun was eliminated by being pushed out of fifth place.

In the petition, Jung Kyung-eun raised the suspicion of’unauthorized selection’, saying, “There were rumors that there was a nominee among the players participating in the selection, and that player was actually included in the final list.”

Jung Kyung-eun said, “I heard inappropriate remarks such as a certain player being mentioned by a judge who was in the middle of the competition,” and “The rumors have spread rapidly with remarks as if the selection of players for a specific team has already been decided.”

He also pointed out that “three out of the six judges were the leaders of the players who participated in the selection,” and pointed out that the composition of the judges itself could hinder fair judgment.

Jung Kyung-eun added, “Before the final list was officially announced, I heard the list of players selected from the parent player, and it is doubtful that it was exactly the same as the announced list.”

“Even if the win rate is high, it is possible to negate and manipulate it as much as possible with the evaluation score,” he criticized. “It is a dark selection system in which players must play the selection without knowing the selection criteria other than their own win rate.”

According to the Korea Badminton Association, Jung Kyung-eun recorded 9 wins and 4 losses in the league match and tied for 7th. However, the score of the evaluation had a great influence on the odds, as the player who achieved 7-7 in the league match received a high score in the judge’s evaluation and was included in the final 5th place.

Jung Kyung-eun appealed, “We have prepared an institutional rule for the composition of the judges, so that there are no more players who are hurting anymore.”

In addition, he asked, “For the right to know the judges who have caused controversy through inappropriate remarks and participate in the selection, please transparently disclose the evaluation items, detailed scoring criteria, judge qualification requirements, and the list of judges.”
