Baseball: The Cataractes will be able to play in the Puribec League

The leaders of the Puribec Baseball League had decided in recent weeks to include the Cataracts in their regular schedule. A decision that pays off today, with the opening of the borders between Quebec and New Brunswick.

“We didn’t have a lot of players in practice yesterday who were impatiently awaiting this news. It was really exciting. We’re happy, it’s been six weeks since training camp started with two practices per week. There was an additional enthusiasm to the practice yesterday to see the guys and also see the light at the end of the tunnel, ”mentioned the player-coach with the Cataractes, François St-Amand.

“Patience paid off. We said to each other me and François St-Amand yesterday. He even thanked me for believing in it and for being so patient. It’s reciprocal, because we really wanted Grand Falls to play in our league, ”commented Ligue Puribec president Denis Bérubé.

Their trips will need to be registered. According to the instructions on the New Brunswick government website, a dose of vaccine will be required to enter the province for people coming from outside Témiscouata, otherwise they will have to self-isolate. What bothers the organization of the Cataracts is the closure of the borders between Canada and the United States. Some launchers are on American soil. This is what forced Edmundston’s Frontière-FM to withdraw.

“Edmundston had a lot of local players across the bridge in Maine. He couldn’t take the chance to wait. For Grand Falls, 2 to 3 players are on the other side. We have spoken so often that they are able to play without these players for now. Hoping now that the borders reopen and that they can play, ”concluded Bérubé.

The Cataractes, who have not played a match since August 25, 2019, will play their first duel on June 26 in Témiscouata.
