Boxing:Storm defeats power

Professional boxer Felix Sturm continues to climb the world rankings. The 42-year-old ex-world champion unanimously defeated the undefeated James Kraft from Munich in the light heavyweight division on Saturday evening in the Universum Gym in Hamburg (99:91, 96:94, 97:93). It was Sturm’s second win after his comeback last year. This time, however, the Cologne man with Bosnian roots had to break tough resistance. Sturms’ stablemate, who was 18 years younger than him, confidently defended himself against topical temperatures in the hall and landed a few hits. Storm drove his opponent in front of him, had the significantly higher number of hits. Kraft, on the other hand, struck harder. At the end of the third lap, Sturm staggered into his corner after a right. “Felix deserved to win on points. It was a great, close duel,” said promoter Ismail Özen-Otto.

Cult trainer Ulli Wegner as a guest of the event praised both boxers. “Kraft was able to deliver good and hard counterattacks. Sturm was just a tad better.” The favorite marked his 42nd victory in the 51st professional fight and wants to get into position again for a World Cup duel. Sturm is planning his next fight in the fall. Opponent could be Vincent Feigenbutz, who defeated 39-year-old Nuhu Lawal from Nuremberg by knocking out in the ninth round. “I’m young and wild and I accept any challenge,” said Feigenbutz about a possible fight against Sturm. In the second main fight of the evening, the Cologne heavyweight Hussein Muhamed defeated the universe fighter Senad Gashi unanimously on points. Gashi had to go down twice, but survived the critical phase. Muhamed won the international title of the WBC.
