‘Frank de Boer is having a hard time now and a sledgehammer for Daley Blind’

Hennie Spijkerman is deeply touched by the horrible moment with Christian Eriksen. He worked as an assistant to Frank de Boer at Ajax together with the Danish playmaker. Moreover, he was sitting on the bench in 2017, when disaster struck Abdelhak Nouri.

“I was watching Denmark-Finland alone at home, but I went to see family. It cut me off,” Spijkerman said. The Telegraph. “The CPR was portrayed in detail, just like the despair and sadness of the fellow players and the white sheet that was held up. The only thing that was missing was the helicopter that landed in Austria and now did not.”

Spijkerman thought he had ended up in a very bad movie, but “fortunately the comparison with Appie stopped.” Eriksen quickly regained consciousness and was approachable. “Let’s not celebrate too soon and pray that the ultimate damage is not too bad, but I – just like everyone else, I think – has been a huge burden off my shoulders.”

According to Spijkerman, the midfielder is ‘a very good guy’. He thinks that the news has also hit the Orange squad hard. “Frank is having a very difficult time at the moment. I am sure of that. He already knew Christian from childhood and had an incredible click with him at Ajax. But it will also be a sledgehammer for Daley Blind. And not only because of his own past, but he gets along very well with Christian. They are friends. And Davy Klaassen, Maarten Stekelenburg and Stefan de Vrij also know him well.”
