See the Netherlands vs Ukraine like a roller coaster ride

Amsterdam

The Netherlands received fierce resistance from Ukraine on matchday 1 of Group C Euro 2020. Although the Netherlands won 3-2, the match was tense like a roller coaster.

The Netherlands vs Ukraine took place at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Monday (14/6/2021) early in the morning WIB. Both teams played to a goalless draw in the first half.

The Netherlands took a two-goal lead through Gini Wijnaldum and Wout Weghorst when the second half had only been running for 13 minutes. In the end, De Oranje couldn’t just pick up the three points.

Ukraine managed to equalize the score within four minutes thanks to goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk. Tensions are clear for the hosts.

The Dutch inevitably had to attack completely. As a result, the winning goal was obtained in the 85th minute through Denzel Dumfries’ header.

“So happy to see Holland win. It was an emotional roller coaster. I’ve run out of my voice, yay!” said former Dutch player, Nigel de Jong, on ITV, quoted by the BBC.

“Denzel Dumfries lost a mentor and especially in the first half, he should have scored a hat-trick with the number of chances he had. But he made it count again at the end of the game.”

De Jong can also feel how stressful the situation is for coach Frank de Boer. If you fail to win, the media can judge the coach.

“It was a tense few minutes for Frank de Boer – I can already imagine the headlines. But the three points are the most important thing,” De Jong insisted.

The Netherlands temporarily sits in second place with three points. They lost on goal difference to Austria who beat North Macedonia 3-1.
