The Frankfurt tennis professional Tim Pütz will compete in doubles with Kevin Krawietz at the Olympic Games. The registration deadline is Tuesday, the nomination will probably be made official in the course of the day. Pütz explained the decision to hr-sport as follows: “It makes more sense for everyone involved if I play with Kevin, because then we can get more teams into the race.”
For a long time it was said that Pütz was going to start with Alexander Zverev. After discussions between the players and the German Tennis Association, Zverev plays with Jan-Lennard Struff – and Pütz with Krawietz. The medal chances would have increased significantly on the side of Zverev. “For me it would be completely safe to play with Zverev from the point of view of coming in – but not for Kevin and Struffi in this case,” said Pütz in an interview as a “team player”.
Pütz: “Two double players – that fits”
The Frankfurt Pütz recently achieved his best world ranking position in doubles (38th place) after his performance in Halle / Westphalia. His colleague Krawietz is also a dual specialist. “I’m also happy about it, it fits well: two double players together and two single players,” said Pütz.
The 33-year-old will now start at Wimbledon, then preparation for the Olympics will begin. At the French Open, Pütz last made it to the quarter-finals in doubles with Hugo Nys. “I’m doing better than ever in my career and I hope that I can take the momentum with me,” he said after the tournament.
