Emma Raducanu, the young sensation of British tennis

The floodlights of Wimbledon and Great Britain are upon her. Emma Raducanu (334 °) arrived at the All England Club as one more tennis player and in just a matter of days she won over an entire nation.

Born in Toronto but to a Romanian father and Chinese mother, She is Canadian by birth but British by adoption At just 18 years old, he is revolutionizing the traditional turf tournament due to several very particular events.

First of all, she is the only British player left in the main draw. Johanna Konta (31st) could not participate due to being in close contact with a Covid-19 positive while Samantha Murray Sharan (230 °), Francesca Jones (211 °), Heather Watson (68th), Harriet Dart (142nd) , Jodie Burrage (274th), Katie Swan (292th) and Katie Boulter (219th) have already been eliminated.

Raducanu, who got rid of Marketa Vondrousova (42nd) in the second round, became the youngest Briton to enter the All England third round since Elena Baltacha (former world No. 49) at Wimbledon 2002. Interestingly, Raducanu hadn’t been born then.

But all this reality is new to her. It’s just that, until April 2021, I was taking math and economics exams at Newstead Wood, a selective school in Orpington, southeast London. Education, injuries and the coronavirus pandemic were those who conspired against their growth.

Between March 2020 and June 2021, the British had not participated in any professional tennis tournament. “To go abroad, we did not feel very comfortable with the Covid situation,” he said about this fact in statements to local media.

But in his childhood not everything was tennis. Before starting training at the age of five at Bromley Academy, she tried ballet, swimming, horseback riding, golf, skiing, and even motocross.

With all this history already written, Raducanu will look to write more chapters of his (so far) short career. Sorana Cirstea (45th) will be her next opponent. Can the Briton be among the best at Wimbledon 2021?
