Krejčíková loses her number one doubles, and is replaced by Mertens

Tennis player Barbora Krejčíková will lose her world number one position in doubles after four weeks. The Czech player will be replaced by the Belgian Elise Mertensová, who secured her return to first place among the doubles players by advancing to the doubles final at Wimbledon.

Krejčíková led the doubles ranking after the triumph on Roland Garros, which she dominated with Kateřina Siniaková. They fell in the quarterfinals on the grass at the All England Club. With Siniak, the WTA doubles also ruled for twelve weeks at the end of the 2018 season and until mid-January 2019.

Mertens was number one doubles for the first time in May this year thanks to titles at the Australian Open (with Belarusian Aryna Sabalenkova) and in Istanbul (with Russia’s Veronika Kuděrmětová). She reached the Wimbledon finals with her Taiwanese partner Sie Shu-wei.
