Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the launch of its first non-expendable token (NFT) to commemorate the speech of New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig after his professional retirement.
NFT will be available on July 4th, which is Gehrig’s farewell to baseball 82 years ago, and provides access to the 17-second video. There you can see the filming of Gehrig’s speech announcing that he had left the baseball field because of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
In addition, the video also shows Glick’s 3D bust with a steel finish, representing the “iron horse”, which is the nickname given to him by fans after playing 2,130 consecutive games.
The bust includes details such as the baseball centennial patch on his uniform and the iconic curve of the baseball player’s hat.
A statement from Major League Baseball said that in addition, a 100 NFT collection of Gehrig bronze busts will be released, allowing “fans to learn more about their own history of baseball.”
