ALGIERS- More than 2,000 athletes will take part in the National School and University Sports Games, scheduled for July 5 to 10 in celebration of the 59th anniversary of the Independence Day and Youth Day, we learned from the Federation on Thursday Algerian School Sports (FASS).

“These games, dedicated to athletes affiliated to the FASS, will bring together 1,250 boys and 900 girls, representing 44 wilaya leagues, to which are added the technical and administrative supervisors, bringing the total number of participants to 2,600 people”, specifies the authority. .

In celebration of the 59th anniversary of the Independence and Youth Day, the organizers have scheduled the opening ceremony of the Games at the July 5 stadium (Algiers), next Monday from 6 p.m.

Eleven sports disciplines are included in the competition program. These are athletics, judo, karate-do, taekwondo, table tennis, associated wrestling, chess, football, handball, basketball and volleyball .

The athletics and karate events will take place at the Mohamed-Boudiaf Olympic complex, the Sato stadium and the Coupole (Algiers), while the table tennis and chess events will be held at the University of El-Affroun (Blida).

The other individual disciplines, namely judo and taekwondo, will be contested respectively at the Harcha hall and at the Eucalyptus sports hall (Algiers).

The sports-co tournaments were spread over two wilayas. Blida will host men’s tournaments (football, basketball, handball, volleyball), while Boumerdès will host women’s tournaments (basketball, handball and volleyball).

This edition of the Games, which will allow national sports federations to detect young talents, is the first since 1979 to bring together school and university sports. At the time, the two federations operated under the same umbrella.
