Olympics: Umbria also present in Tokyo with karate

(UNWEB) The dream of entire generations will take shape next August in Tokyo when, for the first time in history, karate will land in the cheek of Olympic sports. Italy, which has always been among the leading nations of the discipline, will take the field with five athletes ready to do battle to bring home some historical medals to say the least. In the Italian expedition there will also be a nice piece of Umbria with the Technical Director of the Italian national team Fijlkam the maestro Claudio Guazzaroni.

The gray fox, as it is called on the international circuit, has always been the icon of tricolor karate, first as an athlete and captain of the kumite team alongside his brother Gianluca, world champion and his sister Roberta, multiple Italian champion, now as head coach of one of the strongest national teams in the world.

In an exceptional moment like this, the warmth and support of all Fijlkam Umbria from Judo to Fight to Martial Arts could not be missing, which through the regional President Andrea Arena will deliver a ‘lucky charm’ for the Japanese trip.

The Arena President speaks: “Claudio will ideally bring all of us to Tokyo, it will be like being at his side in the materialization of a dream. The visibility that karate can have at the Olympics will be fundamental for the movement in this period, which is really difficult for contact sports extremely penalized by the Covid emergency. Being able to offer a positive image of our disciplines will allow us to rediscover that feeling necessary to bring athletes, children and families closer to our fantastic world where we not only teach sports but ethical and moral values that are fundamental for the growth of an individual and society. Best wishes to his friend Claudio and the young Andrea Ortenzi who will be in Tokyo as the sparring spearhead of the expedition, the very champion Luigi Busà ”.

Claudio Guazzaroni echoes “Here we are, after years of sacrifices, the time has come that we were all looking forward to the Olympics. I am honored to be able to represent Umbria, a small region but a breeding ground for champions and technicians of international level. I feel the closeness of the whole movement with which I have always shared joys and tears for a common growth. With the national team we have worked with a multi-year program that has led us to Tokyo in the best possible way, regardless of all the adversities and making the debts averted I am sure that we will take away some great satisfaction for Italy and for our region “.

Also present at the ceremony was the Coni di Terni provincial delegate Fabio Moscatelli who wanted to wish all the Umbrian athletes and technicians that together with Guazzaroni and Ortenzi the best sporting successes will be competing in Japan.

The Italian Fijlkam expedition will leave Rome in the next few days to compete in Tokyo from 5 to 7 August.
