Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning in Argentina will be packed with action. Some representatives from Albiceleste will make their debut at the Tokyo Olympics, while others will seek to continue making history in Japan.
One of the main attractions will be on Wednesday morning. At 7, in the Hi stadium north field, The Lionesses will seek to expand their legend against India in their attempt to get into the final. The Argentine women’s hockey team, in its eighth Olympic participation, want to enlarge their showcases and add a new medal. To their credit they have two silver (Sydney 2002 and London 2012) and two bronze (Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008). In his remaining presentations he finished in seventh place.
Those led by Chapa Retegui began their journey with a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand, but then they were able to recover with triumphs against Spain (3-0), China (3-2) and Japan (2-1). With the ticket to the next round already secured, they succumbed 2-0 against Australia. In the quarterfinals the Albiceleste squad had a very good performance to beat Germany 3-0 (goals from Agustina Albertario, María Victoria Granatto and Valentina Raposo) and get into the semifinals.
India, meanwhile, advanced as the fourth in Group A, with two victories (Ireland and South Africa) and three defeats (the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom). In the quarterfinals they struck by beating Australia 1-0.
Other national representatives will make their premiere at the most important event in sport. The first to go on stage will be Cecilia Biagioli, who will compete in open water swimming in the 10 km category. Later, at 7.30 pm on Tuesday, Magdalena Simmermacher will play the first round of golf.
Then it will be the turn of Rubé Rézola, the Argentine representative in canoeing in the K1 200m category. He will play his tie from 21.58.
Several medals will also be up for grabs. Among the most important are the women’s 400m hurdles final, individual jump in equestrian, free routine duo in artistic swimming, men’s hammer throw and the men’s 200m final.
