American Mu wins Olympic gold 800 meters

In the last bend, 19-year-old Mu ran away from the rivals and achieved the victory with a new national record – a minute and 55.21 seconds.

It was the first victory of US athletes in this distance in 53 years.

Second place with a new British record was also won by 19-year-old Killie Hodkinson, covering the distance in a minute and 55.88 seconds.

The United States also won bronze, with Reinwin Rogers traveling a minute and 56.81 seconds.

Mu, who had stood out all season with his bold running style, has become the second American to win gold in the 800 meters. In 1968 in Mexico City, it succeeded Medelin Meringa.

It has already been reported that Latvian runner Līga Velvere started unsuccessfully in the 800-meter preliminaries, and the end of the distance was hindered by an injury.
