In the early morning of this Wednesday, Magdalena Simmermacher entered the great history of Argentine sports by being the first representative of the country in some Olympic Games.
The Argentine golfer had her debut in one of the last groups of the day and finished her first 18-hole round with 76 strokes.
Simmermacher, who participates in the Ladies European Tour and qualified for Tokyo 2020 by getting one of the 60 places given by the Olympic ranking, finished the first 18 holes with five over par on the course.
The 25-year-old Argentine managed to get away with birdies from holes 2, 8 and 14, while she bogey on holes 1, 6, 9 and 11; meanwhile, it had a bad closing with a double bogey in numbers 17 and 18, which ended up leaving it in 56th place in the standings.
The leader of the competition
After the first 18 holes, women’s golf has only one leader and that is Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden, who finished the first round with 66, five below par.
There is no qualifying cut
It should be noted that in the golf of the Olympic Games, unlike what happens on the circuit, there is no qualifying cut and thus the 60 participants will compete in the four rounds of Tokyo 2020.
