Before Retiring, Manny Pacquiao Was Asked To Make Duel Against Errol Spence Jr First : Okezone Sports

LAS VEGAS – The career of Filipino boxing star, Manny Pacquiao, is being shrouded in retirement issues, considering that he is not young anymore. However, before finally retiring, Manny Pacquiao was asked to make a fight against Errol Spence Jr first.

As is known, Manny Pacquiao has just completed a duel against a boxer from Cuba, Yordenis Ugas. The duel for the WBA welterweight championship belt which took place on Sunday, August 22, 2021 morning WIB, was also won by Yordenis Ugas.

After losing, Manny Pacquiao was immediately rumored to be retiring. However, former Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Barrera wants Pacquiao to fight one more time against Errol Spence Jr.

Pacquiao himself was supposed to fight Spence for the IBF and WBC welterweight titles. However, Errol Spence Jr failed to make that duel and had to be replaced by Ugas. This happened because Spence suffered an eye injury during a pre-match medical test.

Barrera really hopes Pacman – Pacquiao’s nickname – can return to fight against Spence. According to him, the fight between Pacquiao and Spence will be more exciting than the duel last weekend.

“Pacquiao should rest and continue his plan against Errol. I think Pacquiao vs. Spence will be a fight twice as exciting as this and more pressure in the fight,” Barrera said.

“He’s an amazing fighter. Even though he is 42 years old, Pacquiao looks really good. Get some rest and do the Errol Spence fight.”

Barrera’s wish is unlikely to come true this year. The reason is, Spence’s eye injury is predicted to keep him out until 2022.

In addition, Pacman is also unlikely to fight in the recovery period. He is also rumored to be running for the Philippines Presidential election in March 2022.

“Why not? I would love to see a Pacquiao vs. Spence fight. That’s why I came,” said the former boxer who also fought against Pacman.

“We talked, and he (Pacman) gave me a ticket for his fight. Get some rest, Manny. Just relax, no matter what happens, you still have a lot of work to do.”
