As the franchise announced, Small Forward Leonard, who has played for the Clippers since 2019, will stay in Los Angeles. Last season he was used in 52 games, but missed the crucial play-off phase due to a serious knee injury.

The 30-year-old signed a new contract that media reports suggest will run until 2025 and bring him up to $ 176 million. The team itself did not provide any details.

“Kawhi is out of this world. He’s a tireless worker who improves every day,” team president Lawrence Frank was quoted as saying in the release. “We share the same goals. This contract marks another important milestone for our franchise and our fans on the way to building a championship-caliber organization.”

However, Leonard, two-time Defender of the Year, will miss large parts of the coming season. In mid-July he was operated on for a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Leonard suffered the injury in the play-offs.
