A successful first lead role… Jae-in Lee’s Goal of ‘Switching Season’

[더팩트ㅣ김샛별 기자] Han Se-yoon in ‘Racquet Boys’ is the ace of the national youth badminton team. He has not only natural talent, but also the sincerity that comes from training even when he is sick. He is the so-called hard-working genius. The same goes for actor Lee Jae-in. His acting skills are also excellent, and his steady effort and responsibility never fell behind Han Se-yoon. It is Lee Jae-in, who met Han Se-yoon, a character who looked different, and received sympathy and comfort.

The SBS drama ‘Racquet Boys’, which ended on the 9th, is the story of 16 youths who dream of becoming idols in the badminton world, and a story unfolding in a rural area at the end of the land. Lee Jae-in played Han Se-yoon, who dreams of becoming the youngest national representative in the play.

Recently, broadcasters are rampant with unconventional materials and stimulating directing works. In the midst of this, ‘Racquet Boys’, which focused on the harmony, growth and challenge of characters under the theme of badminton, was in the limelight as a ‘pollution-free and refreshing drama’, leading to enthusiastic responses from viewers.

Jaein Lee also referred to ‘Racquet Boys’ as “a work that can be viewed comfortably.” He said, “I am grateful to be able to appear in a warm and healing drama and play a wonderful character. I am very sad that it is over, but it is also good to think that I finished the drama beautifully.” I think it will remind me a lot of this,” he said.

For Jaein Lee, this work was a challenge in many ways. I had to play the role of an ace, who is a sportsman from the genre and has excellent skills. As soon as Lee Jae-in was decided to appear, he devoted himself to badminton practice for 4-5 months. “It is true that it was not an easy work,” he said. “The sports genre and badminton were different experiences, and I should have practiced steadily before filming. Moreover, I started later than other actors and had a lot of practice.” Still, it wasn’t that hard. Jaein Lee said, “There were a lot of people cheering for me, and it was fun to practice with the actors on set. I think it will be remembered like the way my friends practiced in the drama.”

The biggest challenge was that it was the first lead role on a terrestrial TV. He took on the role of leading role relatively quickly and at a younger age than other actors of his age. Although the burden is likely to be high, Jae-in Lee was thrilled. He said, “I thought it was a new challenge. Isn’t there a lot of scenes that come out in the lead role? That’s why I liked that there were various parts that I could express. Also, because I was filming for a long time, I was able to have a dense setting for the character.”

Jae-in Lee and Se-yoon Han have many similarities. Lee Jae-in, who debuted in the entertainment industry in 2010, started acting in the drama ‘Yellow Vengeful Weed’ in 2012 when she was 9 years old. Although he is still young, his filmography is so gorgeous that he has appeared in 13 films. In addition, her ability was recognized, such as winning the Best New Actress Award at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards for the movie ‘Sabaha’. Lee Jae-in was a live-action version of Han Se-yoon, not only in different fields, but also in her natural talents, as well as discovering her dream early and working hard.

“There were a lot of things that I sympathized with with Seyoon. Me and Seyun decided to do their own distinct job since she was young, and she has been doing it until now, and she has received a lot of attention. It helped me a lot because I was able to reflect on the time.”

The process of overcoming difficulties is similar. When faced with difficult situations, Lee Jae-in, who said, “I tend to think that ‘nothing is not difficult’ and pass it on,” was surprised to see Han Se-yoon’s lines in the play. He said, “Seyoon has a line saying, ‘Because I chose you. If you can do well, shouldn’t you be good?’ Seeing this scene, I felt that Seyoon was a genius. I think we have to do our best.”

Lee Jae-in, who successfully completed her first lead role, described her present as a ‘changing season’. He said, “Sometimes I feel like I’m crossing a certain line or wall. Now seems to be the right time to change.” He said, “But it’s easy to catch a cold during the changing seasons. I think you have to be careful at this time.” It was a satisfactory result, but it was a part that showed Jae-in Lee’s prudence who did not settle for anything.

What is Jae-in Lee’s dream goal? He said, “It’s good to be remembered as an actor Jae-in Lee, but I want to be remembered as a character. It’s not about introducing a role I played, it’s about the character itself,” he said. I wish I could put a lot of it in my memories.”

Lastly, Jae-in Lee thanked the viewers who loved ‘Racquet Boys’.

“Not only me, but everyone else worked hard. I especially wanted to show badminton scenes well, and I hope that those points will be conveyed well. Above all, thank you for watching. Actually, I don’t think a drama will be complete unless the viewers watch it. Our drama was able to be completed because everyone watched it with a good heart.”
