Saturday July 24

Bronze for Luka Mkheidze (judo). He was clearly not expected at this level and yet … The lightweight (-60kg), Georgian refugee, won bronze and the first charm of the tricolor clan. “She impresses me with this medal, I will still look at it for a long time I think, until I learn by heart what is written on it,” he smiled after his victory in the match for 3rd place.

Sunday July 25

Money for Amandine Buchard (judo). 20 seconds on the ground that tarnish a magnificent day. Amandine Buchard is adorned with silver in the under 52kg after a defeat in the final against Uta Abe, crowned the same day as her brother Hifumi.

Gold for Romain Cannone (fencing). We pass you all the puns concocted on the day of his coronation. Romain Cannone, 47th in the world, had a moment of grace by dominating all his opponents with his head and sword.

Monday July 26

Money for Sarah-Léonie Cysique (judo). This beginning of the fortnight was marked by the exploits of French judo. Cysique nevertheless retains a bitter taste. She lost in the final in the under 57 kg because the referee judged that she had put herself in danger by falling head first to the ground.

Bronze for Manon Brunet (fencing). At 25, she became the very first French sabereur to win an Olympic medal. A nice revenge after a 4th place in Rio difficult to heal.

Tuesday July 27

Clarisse Agbégnénou (judo). Riner broke, she didn’t. The standard bearer stepped on the competition and won the right to forget her loss in the final in Rio. She lost money against the Slovenian Trsteniak, the one who had beaten her four years ago.

Bronze for Althéa Laurin (taekwondo). His beautiful career went a bit unnoticed against Queen Agbégnénou. The young taekwondoist however managed at 19 to eliminate the reigning Olympic champion in the quarterfinals before gleaning a bronze medal. See you in four years for gold.

Wednesday July 27

Androdias and Boucheron (rowing). World champions in 2018, European champions the same year and again in May, the two men won the supreme coronation they had come to seek in Japan at the end of a perfectly managed competition.

Thursday July 28

Claire Bové and Laura Tarantola (rowing). Qualified in a very high final where the British and Italians had in turn beat the world record the day before, the 2019 European runners-up managed a sensational final. This is the second women’s medal in the history of French rowing at the Olympics.

Madeleine Malonga (judo). Money that laughs, but also money that weeps. Madeleine Malonga was taken to the ground at the start of her final by the Japanese Hamada in the -78 kg final. A final dispatched in less than a minute to the greatest regret of the Habs, world number one and 2019 world champion.

Women’s foil team (fencing). Blaze, Guyart, Ranvier and Thibus took the team silver after a crazy day, between a fantastic comeback against Italy in the half and a failed final against Russia. It is the first medal for France in the discipline since 1984.

Friday July 30

Bronze for Romane Dicko (judo). Like Riner, she was also aiming for gold, but at 21 years of age, winning 3rd place in the under 78kg category is not ridiculous. Defeated in half by Cuban Idalys Ortiz, Olympic champion in 2012, she will be eagerly awaited in 2024 at home.

Bronze for Riner (judo). Difficult not to speak of disillusion, difficult not to greet this new Olympic medal either. Able to re-mobilize after his surprise elimination in the quarter-finals, Teddy Riner went to win a 3rd place, as in 2008. He defeated the Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa, his rival in the 2016 final in Rio.

Saturday July 31

The bronze mixed triathlon team. For them, it’s a revenge. After suffering in the individual events, where they hoped for medals, the French (Périault, Beaugrand, Coninx, Luis) managed to win a beautiful bronze medal, behind Great Britain and the United States.

Charline Picon in silver (RS: X). Gold in Rio, silver in Tokyo. Despite a fantastic Medal Race, largely won, Charline Picon will not make the double. The fault of the Chinese Lu, who managed to limit the damage during this last regatta.

Thomas Goyard in silver (RS: X). Silver windsurf board, second edition! But this time, with a Thomas Goyard had another race scenario, since he was disqualified from the Medal Race for an early start. No consequences, since his competitors for the podium were also disqualified, for the same reasons.

French rugby sevens team in silver (female). Let’s forget about this final, largely won by New Zealand (26-12), to focus on the magnificent course of the Bleues du VII, unbeaten until the final after having notably beaten the British in the semi-finals. This is the first medal at 7 for France, this sport having arrived at the Olympics in 2016.

French team of judo by team in gold . Perhaps the greatest French achievement of these Games! The French judo team defeats Japan, at home, without trembling. Sarah-Léonie Cysique offers victory to France on a last controlled fight.

French silver saber women team. We were not far from a comeback! Largely led by the Russians in the finals, the Blue failed four small touches (45-41) from the now Olympic champions. Their journey (victory against the United States and Italy) remains nonetheless exceptional.

Sunday August 1st

Florent Manaudou in silver. Three Olympics, three medals for Florent Manaudou. In gold in London and silver in Rio, the French sprinter did it again in Tokyo, finishing behind the untouchable American Caeleb Dressel.

The foilists in gold. They did it ! Monstrous against Russia in the final, the Blues foil won to offer a fifth gold medal to the French delegation. Erwann Le Pechoux, Enzo Lefort, Julien Mertine and Maxime Pauty are the heroes of the day.

Monday August 2

Jean Quiquampoix in gold (shooting). The achievement was so bad that we saw almost nothing, but we understood everything: a real trigger in rapid fire at 25m, Jean Quiquampoix became Olympic champion on Monday morning, five years after his silver medal in Rio.

The French bronze riding team (eventing). They were gold in Rio, they are bronze in Tokyo, but that’s not a disappointment. Despite a lot of problems in the preparation, the French eventing team snatched a beautiful bronze medal thanks to Christopher Six, Karim Laghouagh and Nicolas Touzaint.

Tuesday August 3

Men’s bronze team speed (track cycling). We expected them instead for 2024. But Florian Grengbo, Rayan Helal and Sébastien Vigier gave us one of the most unexpected medals of these Games by winning their race against Australia for bronze.

Wednesday August 4

Lecointre and Retornaz in bronze (veil, 470). The hardest part had been done in previous regattas, but the French secured the bronze medal in the Medal Race, which counts double. Small regret however, the French were in silver before the last jibe, but the Poles finally overtook the English and took second place.
