Tom Brady turns 44 and continues to defy time

Tom Brady it is a phenomenon of nature almost impossible to repeat. In 2018, when he won Super Bowl LIII with the Patriots, he became the oldest passer to lift Vince Lombardi (41 years old); two seasons later, he set a new record by winning the title with the Bucs at age 43. However, the veteran passer has shown no evidence of deterioration.

This August 3, in the middle of his first fit training camp with the Buccaneers and looking forward to his second season at Tampa Bay, Tom Brady turns 44.

The quarterback, in one way or another, continues to find ways to leave his name marked in the depths of the history of the league. With the kickoff on September 9, Brady will become the fifth oldest player in history matching Warren Moon and Vinny Testaverde.

The difference that separates Brady from Moon and Testaverde, and also makes their case more special, is that the Michigan product remains at a very high level. In his last season he passed for 4,633 yards (fifth best record of his career) y 40 touchdowns (second highest figure); in perspective, the two “companions” of TB12 they combined for 1,160 yards and six touchdowns in his last year in the league.

In terms of seniority and capacity on the grid, Brady has a chance to match George Blanda as the oldest soccer player in history (48 years). At the moment, it seems that the pin has the last word and recently indicated that he doesn’t expect to play until he’s 50. At the moment, he has a current contract with the Buccaneers until 2022; afterwards, there is only uncertainty.

The record man

There are more reasons that make this campaign, the 22nd as a professional, momentous in Brady’s career. With nothing else to prove (seven Super Bowl rings, more than any franchise in the league, the passer is 1,154 short of matching Drew Brees for the all-time leader in passing yards. In case of averaging an approximate 290 yards in the first three games of the season, Brady will break the mark in the ideal setting, Gillette Stadium, his home for 20 seasons.
