Houston Rockets are apparently looking for a buyer for John Wall

After only a year with the Houston Rockets, John Wall is apparently leaving the franchise. According to matching media reports, the team agreed with Wall to look for a trade by the point guard.

This was initially reported by Shams Charania (The Athletic), meanwhile, the message was from among other things ESPN confirmed. Accordingly, both sides want to work together to find a new home for the 31-year-old.

Wall did not explicitly demand a trade, but the point guard no longer plays a role in the future plans of the Rockets. Until a buyer has been found, however, he should stay with the team. So he is apparently expected at the start of the training camp in two weeks. The Rockets hope that his experience can help the young talents like Jalen Green or Kevin Porter Jr., who should own the future in the Rockets backcourt. However, Wall should no longer play a game for the Texans.

According to Charania, both parties agree that a change of scenery is best for both Wall and the Rockets. A buyout is not an option, Wall’s contract runs for another two years, during which he is entitled to 91.7 million dollars (player option in the second year over 47.4 million).

Due to the hefty contract and the veteran’s injury history, Houston cannot expect much value in a trade. Although the Rockets allegedly do not want to give their own first round picks just to get rid of Wall, they would probably have to include bad contracts in a trade package themselves.

Wall only came to Houston from Washington in the 2020 offseason in the Russell-Westbrook Trade. After missing the entire preseason due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, the five-time All-Star 20/21 completed 40 games in which he scored 20.6 points and 6.9 assists at 40.4 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from Downtown hung up.
