Badminton Denmark’s sports management has selected a large squad of 17 players to represent Denmark at the Sudirman Cup in Finland. The ambition is to play for medals and at the same time give the younger players championship experience.

The biggest names in Danish badminton have been selected for the World Cup for mixed teams, the Sudirman Cup. Viktor Axelsen, Anders Antonsen, Mia Blichfeldt and Kim Astrup / Anders Skaarup, among others, can be found on the team card, where younger players such as Frederik Søgaard, Amalie Magelund / Freja Ravn and Alexandra Bøje also perform.

– We have selected a squad that we believe has the qualities to play with for medals. It is also a squad where we have the opportunity to be flexible. In our group we get the opportunities to use ”the usual suspects” but also new forces who can gain championship experience in both the short and long run, says head national coach Kenneth Jonassen.

A total of 17 players have been selected, and they can withdraw in the red and white colors when the clashes against Indonesia, Russia and Canada are initially to be fought in Group C.

– Overall, we meet three good teams, but also three teams, where we can be flexible in our team line-up, so we can think strategically, over the next two championships. The younger players can potentially get some responsibility for the Sudirman Cup, which they can use for the Thomas & Uber Cup, and that opportunity is really important, says head national coach Kenneth Jonassen.
