Paralympic athletes are received at the Miraflores Palace

Miraflores Palace, Caracas.- The doors of the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, open this Thursday to receive the delegation that represented Venezuela in the XVI Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which sealed the best performance in its history by adding seven medals and 17 Paralympic diplomas.

“A Welcome from Champions! Since their arrival in the sovereign airspace of Venezuela, the prominent pilots of the Bolivarian Military Aviation greeted and escorted the Victorious Paralympic Delegation Tokyo 2020. The Homeland of Bolívar and Chávez embraces them ”, the President of the Republic, Nicolás, emphasized earlier. Maduro, through his official account on the social network Twitter @NicolasMaduro.

The Paralympic delegation landed at the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, located in the state of La Guaira, at 10:50 in the morning aboard an aircraft of the Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services (Conviasa). Minutes after descending, the triple Paralympic medalist Lisbeli Vera greeted the attendees by waving the yellow, blue and red of the National Tricolor from one of her windows.

Venezuela ranked 38th in the general medal table of the XVI Paralympic Games after finishing with seven medals: three gold, two silver and two bronze, thus sealing the best performance of the national delegation since Rio 2016.

The notes of “Gloria al Bravo Pueblo” reverberated in Tokyo through the gold medalists Lisbeli Vera (Para Athletics 100 meters and 200 meters) and Linda Pérez (Para Athletics 100 meters) in the T47 and T11 categories, respectively. The silver medal rested in Lisbeli Vera (For Athletics 400 meters) T47 and Luis Felipe Rodríguez (For Athletics 400 meters) T12, while Alejandra Pérez (For Athletics 400 meters) T12 and Clara Fuentes (For Power – 41kg).

Of the 17 Paralympic diplomas won in Tokyo 2020, 11 correspond to Para Athletics, two to Para Power, three to Para Swimming and one to Para Judo, being its creditors: Alejandra Pérez, Linda Pérez, Naibys Morillo, Edwars Varela, Belkis Mota, Ericsson Bermúdez, Abraham Ortega, Norkelys González, Oriana Terán, Wiunawis Hernández, Marcos Blanco, Yomaira Cohen, Greilyz Villaroel and Wendis Mejías.

Since Barcelona 1992, when the Zulian Yolmer Urdaneta claimed bronze in B2 disc, Venezuela has added 24 medals, distributed in four gold, seven silver and 13 bronze.

In this sense, Venezuela registers a bronze in Barcelona 1992; a bronze at Sydney 2000; one silver and two bronzes in Athens 2004; a gold, a silver and two bronzes in Beijing 2008; two bronzes in London 2012; three silvers and three bronzes in Rio 2016.

The XVI Paralympic Games took place between August 24 and September 5 in Tokyo, marking the second time that the Japanese capital has hosted the summer competition since 1964.
