Cristiano Ronaldo mourns the loss of a friend – touching post on Instagram – football

Cristiano Ronaldo (36) posted a photo on Instagram in which he is sitting next to a man and a woman. The ManUnited star provided the story – and it’s a heartbreaking one.

“There are moments when everything fades into the background, including football,” wrote the Portugal megastar about the photo to his meanwhile no less than 352 million followers. “Last week a fantastic person passed away in an unexpected way, our dear Soraia, a wonderful mother and wife of one of the best friends that life gave me.”

And further: “Nothing can erase the pain of my brother José Semedo and the whole family, but we are together today as always to cope with this very difficult time. Rest in peace my friend. We will never forget her.”

José Semedo is currently a professional at Portugal club Vitória Setúbal. He and Ronaldo have known each other at Sporting Lisbon since their youth. There, Cristiano had campaigned against the impending expulsion of his friend. Semedo years later: “I owe everything to Ronaldo!”

Semedo’s wife Soraia had been hospitalized with health problems and was about to undergo emergency surgery. Instead, she died as a result of an infection. The bad news was announced on Thursday.
